TOWN OF LEBANON, NY – A woman died last Thursday from injuries she suffered in a head on collision with a tractor trailer truck in Madison County, New York. The truck accident happened on State Route 12B in the town of Lebanon, near Hamilton. The accident area is in the north central section of the state, 35 miles southeast of Syracuse and 232 miles northwest of New York City.

As Ms. Sharot was driving through the town of Lebanon she apparently lost control on the slippery roads and crossed into the northbound lane of State Route 12B, directly in the path of a 2010 International tractor trailer truck traveling north.

At around 8:00 a.m. last Thursday morning, 34 year old Stacy L. Sharot of Earlville, NY was driving a 1998 Ford vehicle south on State Route 12B. There were no passengers in the car with Ms. Sharot. It was snowing at the time and the road surfaces were slick and covered with snow.

As Ms. Sharot was driving through the town of Lebanon she apparently lost control on the slippery roads and crossed into the northbound lane of State Route 12B, directly in the path of a 2010 International tractor trailer truck traveling north.

The truck driver 51 year old Daniel P. Case of Olean, NY was unable to maneuver out of the way to avoid an accident, and hit the Ford car head on.

Local emergency personnel from the Hamilton Fire Department Rescue and the SOMAC Ambulance team responded to the scene of the truck accident. The EMT team found that Ms. Sharot suffered fatal injuries in the truck accident and she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison County coroner.

The truck driver, Mr. Case, was not injured in the truck collision. He appeared to be driving a truck for a food company, and the truck remained upright and the load stayed in the trailer.

The New York State Police and Madison County Sheriff troopers were also on the scene of the truck accident to control traffic and investigate the cause of the collision. State Route 12B was closed for several hours while troopers reconstructed the scene and highway crews removed the wreckage form the roadway.

At this time it is believed that the winter weather and slick roads were the reason that Ms. Sharot lost control and traveled into the northbound lane of the highway.

No charges have been brought at this time pending the conclusion of the investigation, which remains open.

Other departments joining the New York State Police BCI uniform troopers in the truck accident investigation include NY State Collision Reconstruction Unit, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, and the Madison County Sheriff’s office.
