CLEVELAND, OH – April 1, 2010, two people riding a motorcycle died after a hit and run truck accident Thursday night in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The fatal truck accident also involved a mini van and occurred on Interstate 490 near West 7th Street in Cleveland, OH. The accident area is in the far northeast section of the state near Lake Erie, 117 miles east of Toledo, OH and 135 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Cleveland Police and Emergency Medical Services technicians responded quickly to the scene of the truck accident. Both riders on the motorcycle suffered fatal injuries when they were hit by the truck and were pronounced dead at the scene.

At about 10:45 p.m. Thursday night an unidentified 38 year old man was riding his motorcycle east on Interstate 490 near the city of Cleveland. There was a passenger riding on the back of the motorcycle, a 26 year old woman, also unidentified.

Some witnesses reportedly told officers that the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and changing lanes back and forth, or zigzagging.

As the motorcyclists rode east on I-490 near West 7th Street they hit the right back section of an eastbound Dodge Caravan minivan. After hitting the minivan, the motorcyclist swerved into the lane to his right, directly into the path of a white semi trailer truck headed east on the interstate.

The 18 wheeler truck was unable to slow or maneuver to avoid a collision and slammed into the motorcycle. The impact of the truck accident threw the man and the woman of the bike onto the interstate. The white tractor trailer truck did not stop after the collision, but instead continued driving east on I-490.

Cleveland Police and Emergency Medical Services technicians responded quickly to the scene of the truck accident. Both riders on the motorcycle suffered fatal injuries when they were hit by the truck and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Cleveland police officers shut down the eastbound traffic lanes on I-490 in the area around the fatal truck accident. Highway crews were brought in to clear the lanes of traffic, and the interstate would remain closed for several hours.

The truck accident is being investigated by the Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit. Authorities have put out a bulletin to find the truck driver who left the scene of the fatal collision without stopping.

The unidentified driver of the Dodge minivan did stop after the truck accident, and news video show the minivan being taken from the accident scene on a flatbed trailer truck.

At this point no charges or citations have been brought in the truck accident. Cleveland police are asking the public for any information they may have about the collision or the truck driver who left the scene of the hit and run truck accident.
