CEDAR FALLS, IA – Early Thursday morning A semi truck collided with a pickup truck when the driver of the big rig failed to yield at a stop sign. The impact of the crash sent the pickup truck rolling into a ditch, where it came to a rest on its wheels. The location of the accident was in the north section of Cedar Falls about 69 miles northwest of Cedar Rapids, IA and about 133 miles northeast of Des Moines.

The driver of the pickup, Robert Thompson, age 66, was driving in the area of West Cedar Wapsie and Waverly roads at about 5:45 a.m. when his truck was hit by a semi truck driven by Shawn Thornton, 28, of Muscatine, according to deputies.

Medics with Janesville Fire Rescue and Sartori Hospital removed Thompson, from his vehicle and took him to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo for a complaint of back pain, according to Black Hawk County sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies cited Thornton for failure to yield at a stop sign.
