Author: GERVAIS, OR. — A man from Texas was struck by an 18 wheeler truck while he was walking along Highway 99E in a rural farming area south of Portland, Ore. The victim was identified as Thomas Jay Franklin, 21, of Austin, Texas authorities said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 2, at about 5:20 p.m. between the towns of Gervais and Brooks.
Oregon State Police said the truck driver was unable to avoid Franklin, who evidently stepped into the southbound lane directly in the truck’s path.
The accident remains under investigation.
