Author: AMARILLO, TX – A Toyota Camry with two women inside, hit a Penske tractor trailer truck after running a red light in downtown Amarillo, according to witnesses, the local police said. The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, June 18, at about 1:30 p.m. at 10th and Taylor Streets.

Witnesses told the Amarillo police that the gray Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on 10th when it ran a red light, hitting the Penske moving truck.

The Camry acted as a wedge, flipping the Penske truck over on its side and blocking all lanes of traffic on Taylor Street.
The 74-year-old female passenger of the Camry was extricated from the wreckage. She, along with the 50-year-old driver of the Camry and the 29-year-old male driver of the Penske truck, was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police said the injuries were not life-threatening.
The occupants in the Camry are Amarillo residents but the driver of the Penske truck, from Virginia Beach, Va., was traveling through town.
The streets in the area remained closed while police investigate the accident. Police said alcohol was not a factor.
