HUNTSVILLE, TX — A Houston truck driver was charged with third-degree felony DWI after  his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado rolled over crashing into a power pole on I-45.

The driver, identified as 63-year-old Miguel Alvarez from Houston, was traveling south in the 600 block of Interstate 45 around 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 11, when his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado went airborne, crashing into a power pole owned by Entergy.

According to the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) crash report, Alvarez failed to keep his vehicle in a single lane, which caused the vehicle to cross a small ditch and rollover onto its left side. The report said that the vehicle then slid for nearly 15 feet across the west feeder road and rolled onto its right side before striking the pole.

The Huntsville Item reports:

Officer Chris Meyers of the Huntsville Police Department responded to the scene within eight minutes of being dispatched.

Alvarez’s truck settled upright on a sidewalk about 10 feet west of the feeder road. Due to his injuries, Alvarez was rushed to the hospital instead of being arrested. Police said they are waiting for results of blood tests to continue their investigation.

Authorities were unable to provide information on the nature of the injuries but said Alvarez was “incapacitated at the scene.”

Entergy representatives were unavailable for comment Tuesday regarding damage to the power pole.
