SAN ANTONIO, TX – Police said a 38-year-old gravel truck driver was killed instantly when his truck slammed into a semi truck on Tuesday afternoon, Aug 16th on Highway 16.

A semi truck driver was killed on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 in San Antonio, TX when his big rig that was hauling a load of gravel rear-ended another semi truck that was making a turn. The accident severed the cab off the gravel truck.

The victim’s 10-year old son, who was also in the cab, miraculously survived. The boy was hospitalized after the ordeal, but he is expected to be fine.

Police told reporters that one semi driver was turning south from the frontage road onto Highway 16 when he noticed another semi carrying gravel advancing at a high rate of speed.

Authorities said, that when the truck carrying gravel slammed into the other tractor trailer, the impact was so severe that it completely ripped the cab off the gravel truck.

Police said that the other truck driver who was rear-ended walked away with no visible injuries.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
