The 18-wheeler was hauling a load of structural steel product that spilled across the entire width of the roadway blocking all traffic between the two Interstates. It took work crews several hours to remove all the debris and clear the road so it could be opened again for traffic.

It was reported that at least 3 passenger cars were hit by what appeared to be metal scaffolding that the big rig was transporting. There may be liability incurred by the trucking company or the business that loaded the truck, or even the truck driver. No matter who has the liability, the incident will require a thorough investigation to find out.

A tractor-trailer fitted with a crane and pulling a flatbed trailer was brought in to put the wrecked tractor-trailer upright and to pick up all the scattered metal scaffolding. A semi truck towing rig was also brought in to tow it away from the scene of the accident. One news reporter described the spilled metal scaffolding as a “giant erector set.”

Delays in traffic were backed up all the way to Highway 290.

The cause of the accident is not known at this time and it is currently under investigation.
