ALTO, WI – Two people were seriously injured when a pickup truck became wedged under a semi truck after a crash in Alto, WI on Sunday, October 30, 2011.

Alto is located in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin in the south-central part of the state.

The accident occurred around 3:50 p.m. on Sunday. The 18 wheeler was an empty milk tanker that was traveling eastbound on County Road AS when it made a a left turn onto Highway 49 into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.

The accident trapped the pickup truck driver and a child occupant under the tractor-trailer and both were seriously injured in the accident. Both had to be extricated by rescue workers using the jaws of life.

The pickup became wedged under the tanker trailer, trapping the occupants inside. The force of the collision sheared the roof off the pickup truck.

The big rig driver was uninjured in the incident, but the two occupants of the pickup truck had to be airlifted by separate helicopters to hospitals in Milwaukee.

One of the patients was first transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital in Waupun, but was transported from there to a hospital in Milwaukee by a Flight for Life helicopter.

Highway 49 was closed to traffic at Amity Rd to the north of the scene of the accident.

Among the responders to the accident were the Fire Departments from the towns of Alto, Waupun and Brandon plus the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department.

Fortunately the tanker’s fuel tank remained intact and there was no fire and no burn injuries in this accident.
