The driver, Jason Antar, 30 years old from Folcroft, PA and a passenger riding in the sleeper were both injured in the accident. They were transported by ground ambulance to a hospital in Hobart, IN, where they were treated for their injuries.

The accident shut down the exit for about 4 hours, while rescue workers, cleanup workers and state police worked the scene of the accident. The passenger had to be extricated from the sleeping compartment before being transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Hobart.

The big rig driver suffered cuts and abrasions and the passenger was complaining of neck and back pain. The passenger, Jose J. Velazquez, 54 years old from Pennsylvania was actually a second truck driver.

The 18 wheeler was a 2009 Freightliner owned and operated by Prime Inc., a refrigerated, flatbed, and tanker trucking company out of Springfield, MO.

According to Police the truck was going too fast to make the curve in the exit ramp and flipped onto its driver’s side. Antar said he was cutoff by a car, but Police said evidence showed that he was driving too fast and cited him for driving too fast to avoid a collision.

Fortunately, the truck driver’s and occupant’s injuries were not serious and that there was no brain injury involved.
