Dallas 18 Wheeler Accident on I-30 Hospitalizes Trucker

DALLAS, TX – A semi truck driver was hospitalized on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 after flipping his 18 wheeler on the I-30 in Dallas, TX.

A semi truck flipped over onto its side on Wednesday, December 21 at the curve just before the Lawnview Ave. exit on the eastbound I-30 in Dallas, TX.

Dallas is located in Dallas County, Texas in the northeastern part of the state about 433 miles northeast of Laredo, 290 miles northwest of Beaumont and about 158 miles northeast of Killeen.

The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-30 just east of downtown Dallas at the Lawnview Ave. exit. The trucker had to be rescued from the overturned truck, which jackknifed at the curve just before the exit.

The accident happened about 3:45 a.m. on the bridge over White Rock Creek when the truck driver lost control and jackknifed, toppling the trailer. The driver was taken to Baylor University Medical Center with minor injuries.

According to reports, the 60 year-old truck driver sustained injuries to his leg and neck. He was reported to have been conscious when rescue personnel reached him. The truck driver’s name was not released.

The accident also caused a diesel fuel spill from the big rig’s fuel tanks, which officials were concerned about because the site of the accident was on a bridge over White Rock Creek. It was reported that some of the hazardous material spilled into the creek below.

Dallas County Hazmat crews were dispatched to cleanup the spilled fuel. Fortunately, no evacuations were ordered and there were no injuries reported as a result of the hazardous materials.

The tractor trailer was hauling medical supplies at the time. The big rig was laying on its side and completely blocked all the eastbound lanes of traffic.

Traffic was detoured around the accident during the morning rush hour. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, but it is currently under investigation.
