DES MOINES, IA. – A semi truck driver hit a Saydel school bus from behind that was stopped on the railroad tracks on Northeast Broadway Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa sending two people to the hospital.

According to the Polk County sheriff’s office, the accident occurred on Good Friday, April 6, where the collision reportedly propelled the bus beyond the railroad tracks. A pickup truck then crashed into the back of the big rig.

The driver of the 18 wheeler was identified as Irfan Dervisevic, 37, of Louisville, Ky., and was cited for failing to stop properly.

According to DesMoinesRegister.com, an associate teacher and a 16-year-old student, the only passengers on the bus, were taken to the hospital for what appeared to be minor injuries, police said. The bus passengers were not identified in police reports. The bus driver, truck driver and three men in the pickup all declined medical attention.

The incident remains under investigation.
