HOUSTON, Tx. –- A truck accident involving a collision between a Ryder box truck and a pickup towing a tractor tied up traffic on the East Loop Tuesday afternoon, July 31.

The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. on the southbound lanes of the E Loop Freeway (I-610) just south of the Market Street overpass and north of Turning Basin Dr.

Officers at the scene said the cause was unknown at the time of the incident, but they did say the box truck driver and a passenger had to be extracted from the truck’s cab.

Officials said that both the truck driver and his passenger were taken to a local hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The media reports that accident left the box truck on its side, with visible damage to the cab and cargo areas. The truck which was loaded with industrial batteries, did spill some acid, but a hazmat team rushed to the scene and was able to contain the spill.

The pickup and its trailer were jackknifed.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
