AUSTIN, TX. –  An accident involving a semi truck hauling a tanker struck an overpass bridge near Texas 71 and U.S. 183 near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport temporarily shutting down several lanes of the highway.

According to Austin police officials, the crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. along southbound U.S. 183 at Texas 71 close to the airport, forcing the closure of U.S. 183 southbound and one lane of Texas 71 eastbound.

Texas Department of Transportation was called to the scene to access the damage to the overpass which they determined to be minor. Subsequently, all lanes of U.S. 183 and Texas 71 were reopened by early afternoon.

Officials told the media that the tank was knocked off the bed of the truck, but there were no leaks. There were no injuries reported at the time of the accident.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
