NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX — A trucker driving a 2006 Mack log truck on FM 2782 pulled into the southbound lane of US 59 in front of a 2000 Toyota Echo killing the driver of the Toyota.

One man was killed when his car was struck by a logging truck on U.S. 59 about 8.4 miles southwest of the town of Nacogdoches, TX on August 28, 2012.

The accident occurred in the early morning on Tuesday, Aug 28, when the driver of the Toyota crashed into the log truck which had turned in front of him on US 59 South in Nacogdoches County.

The victim, identified as 56-year old Catarino Perez, died on the scene around 6:30 a.m.

“Usually he’d be home by 6:40 and we noticed that, no calls and we were calling him and usually he gets here because he helps out my mom,” said Mark Perez, victim’s son.

The trucker, who appeared uninjured, was identified as 37-year old Jerome Charez Bryant of Garrison.

“We all bear responsibility to drive safely, be aware of our surroundings its important that we take the time and due caution to not enter roadways until it is safe to do so,” said DPS spokesman Trooper David Hendry.

“It takes a long time, especially involving an 18-wheeler due to its size to takes a while to get everything moved off the road way to ensure traffic safely goes by.”

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
