SWEETWATER, TX — A semi truck accident took place on Thursday September 27 during rainy weather conditions when an 18-wheeler crashed into a Highway 84 overpass on the westbound I-20 west of Sweetwater Texas causing severe damage to the bridge.

According to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden, the big rig truck took out the support columns on the Highway 84 bridge that goes over the west bound lanes of Interstate 20.

Rescue crews arrived on the scene and freed the trucker and co-driver through the windshield. Both were taken to Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater, where they remained in stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
