BEAUMONT, Texas — A Pearland couple is dead and it’s estimated that 80 to 120 people were injured on Thursday, Nov. 22, when according to state troopers at least 100 vehicles collided in a pile up on Interstate 10 about 18 miles southwest of Beaumont.

A massive semi truck accident occured on November 22, 2012 near Beaumont, TX on I-10 and involved over 100 collisions that killed two people and injured at least 80 others.

The accident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. Thanksgiving Day in thick foggy weather on the I-10 about 18 miles southwest of Beaumont and about 80 miles east of Houston. At least four separate wrecks involving more than 100 vehicles, including many tractor-trailers and at least one tanker, had closed Interstate 10 near Beaumont for most of the day.

According to DPS, a crash on the eastbound side of the highway led to other accidents in a dangerous chain reaction. There were multiple crashes on the other side of the highway as well. The first crash was in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, with the second crash in the westbound lanes, troopers said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety told the media that a Pearland couple died when an 18-wheeler rear-ended and crushed their Chevy Suburban SUV killing both who were trapped inside.

Denise Richter, spokeswoman for Acadian Ambulance Service said that 22 ambulances from the Beaumont, Houston and Lake Charles, La. areas were called out to the accident. She said that at least 51 people have been taken to Beaumont area hospitals and at least eight are critically hurt.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
