MCKENZIE COUNTY, N.D. — A Trenton Texas man was killed from injuries sustained in an accident involving his pickup and an 18-wheeler on Sunday, Dec. 2, in McKenzie County, N.D. The trucker did not appear to be injured.

Map shows location of fatal truck accident on Hwy 73 on Dec. 2, 2012 just east of Watford City, ND.

The accident occurred on Sunday evening at about 8:30 p.m. on Highway 73 when the victim ran his Toyota pickup truck into a semi truck that pulled out in front of him.

The victim was identified as 77-year old Eugene Felker of Trenton, Texas.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol told the media that Felker was driving a 2006 Toyota pickup east on Highway 73 in heavy fog when he approached a truck pullout near mile post 10.

The semi truck driver, identified as David Whitter of Plantation, Florida, was parked at the pullout in a 2005 International semitruck with a trailer. As Felker’s Toyota approached the pullout, Whitter pulled his semi onto Highway 73.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, as Whitter drove out of the pullout, Felker’s Toyota slammed into the tractor trailer Whitter was pulling. Felker’s Toyota spun clockwise and hit the semi again on the driver’s side.

The trucker told the Highway Patrol that he never saw the Toyota due to the heavy fog at the time.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
