MEXIA, Texas — According to a Department of Public Safety trooper, a gravel truck driver traveling east on Highway 84 was killed on Thursday morning, Feb. 28, after his 18-wheeler veered off the highway and struck a tree on the shoulder of the road just west of Mexia. The city of Mexia is located about 86 miles southeast of Dallas.

The accident occurred at around 8 a.m. Thursday morning at the intersection of U.S. 84 and Farm-to-Market Road 2705, about 6 miles west of Mexia.

The semi truck driver was identified late Thursday afternoon as Bobby Joe Threet, 72. The trooper said Threet may have experienced a medical problem before the accident happened.

No other injuries were reported.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
