ALICE, Texas — A man riding his bicycle was hit by a tractor trailer Tuesday, March 12, leaving him seriously injured.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Luis David Wyles, was riding his bicycle eastbound on the shoulder of state highway 44 at about 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, when a white Kenworth tractor-trailer towing a tanker pulled out of the Tex Best Travel Center and hit him, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.

DPS officials said that Wyles’ right leg was run over by the trailer portion of the truck, and his leg was broken below the knee. He was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice.

Officials said they are looking at store surveillance footage and have found the trailer, but not the driver as of Tuesday morning. Anyone that was in the area is urged to call DPS at 361-668-8296 or call the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office at 361-668-034.
