MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. — The Harlem-Roscoe Fire Dept was dispatched on Wednesday, April 17, after injuries were reported from two semi trucks that crashed on the I-90 near Machesney Park about 7 miles north of Rockford Illinois.
The accident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, April 17, when a semi truck traveling westbound on the I-90 rear-ended another semi truck, trapping the driver inside his truck with his hazardous cargo leaking from the trailer.

Westbound (northbound) lanes were shut down and I-90 authorities and the IL State Police had traffic routed off I-90 at Hwy 173.
HRFD Firefighters extricated the driver of the one semi and transported him to the hospital by ambulance. The other driver was not hurt
Hazmat teams were called in from SERT and Rockford Fire to be dispatched to the scene to contain the spill.
The trailer was opened and the damaged containers of hazardous materials and the spill was contained.
The I-90 was reopened three hours later.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
