ALBANY, GA – A trucker blacked out and went airborne after crashing through a guard rail on the Liberty Expressway in Albany, GA on July 12, 2013. Albany is located in Dougherty County, Georgia in the southwestern part of the state about 87 miles southeast of Columbus, GA.

The accident occurred around 6:00 a.m. Friday morning, July 12 when a semi truck traveling westbound on the Liberty Expressway crashed into a guard rail and went airborne between the median of an overpass, then landed hard on Slappey Bl below before coming to a stop.

Debris from the accident struck another vehicle on the expressway above plus another vehicle collided with the tractor trailer on Slappey Bl below. One of the vehicles was a Camaro, driven by 59 year-old Willie Lee Ray, and the other vehicle was a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by 51 year-old William Raines.

The truck driver was identified as 47 year-old John Probert, from Rebecca, GA. He told police he blacked out before going off the highway. Probert was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany where it was reported that he was recovering.

The 18 wheeler that the trucker was driving belonged to Orgill Trucking Co. out of Tifton, GA. The semi trailer was hauling hardware supplies at the time.

Police are investigating the accident, but it is not known if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
