CLEVELAND, TX – A 19 year-old female driver was seriously injured when her vehicle rolled over after being hit by a semi truck in Cleveland, TX on August 23, 2013. Cleveland is located in Liberty County  in the eastern part of the state about 45.7 miles northeast of Houston.

The accident happened on Friday, August 23, 2013 on State Highway 321 near Doc Howard Road in Cleveland, TX. A semi truck was heading south on 321 towards Dayton, TX and had to step on his brakes to avoid hitting another vehicle that was making a turn onto County Road 2243 (Doc Howard Rd).

The big rig’s brakes locked up and it swerved into the northbound lane and collided with a Hummer driven by Cristen Purswell, 19 years old, from Tarkington.

Purswell’s vehicle rolloed over, pinning her in the vehicle until emergency crews could pull her out of the overturned SUV. Rescue crews had to use the jaws of life to extricate her.

Purswell was airlifted to a Houston Hospital where her injuries were listed as serious.

The incident remains under investigation.
