HOPE, AR – A trucker was critically injured on September 7, when his semi truck went off an overpass on I-30 and crashed onto the roadway below in Hope, AR. Hope is in Hempstead County, in the southern part of the state about 113 miles southwest of Little Rock.
The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Central time on September 7, 2013 when a semi truck traveling west on I-30 drifted into the grassy median and crashed through a guard rail then went over an embankment at the Hazel St overpass, landing on the roadway below.
The driver, described as in hs early 50′s, was identified as Kevin Nelson, from Hudsonville, MI. He was driving a rig for ALTL Transportation out of Hudsonville. He was airlifted to a hospital in Little Rock.
A witness who was following the semi truck saw the big rig disappear when it went down the embankment. The truck driver never hit the brakes and just kept on going.
It is believed by a family friend that the truck driver may have suffered from a medical condition which may have led to the accident.
The incident remains under investigation.
