GREENE COUNTY, TN – The driver of a UPS tractor trailer was killed on the northbound I-81 on September 16, in a fiery crash with a pickup truck on I-81 in Greene County, TN. Greene County is located in the northeast part of the state on the western border of North Carolina.

The accident happened around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, on the northbound I-81 in Greene County at the Hamblen County line near mile marker 18.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said that the UPS truck collided with a pickup truck pulling a camper. The semi truck struck a guard rail and both vehicles burst into flames.

The trucker was killed in the accident but the 60 year-old male driver of the pickup truck along with a 57 year-old female passenger were able to escape, injured, but alive.

The UPS driver who was killed was identified as 67 year-old James Berl Tacy, Jr, from Covington VA. Traffic in both directions for several miles was shut down for about 5 hours while cleanup crews and investigators worked the scene of the accident.
