BIG SPRING, TX – A semi truck crashed into a bridge support on I-20 in Howard County, TX on November 5 just west of Big Spring causing the overpass at Farm to Market 2599 to collapse. Big Spring is located in Howard County, Texas in the west-central part of the state about 39.5 miles northeast of Midland.

The accident happened late Tuesday night, Nov. 5, 2013 on the westbound I-20 at FM 2599 between Stanton and Big Spring. A tractor trailer lost control and ran into a bridge support.

The crash knocked the pillars over and brought down a section of the overpass which landed on the Interstate below. A second 18 wheeler then crashed into some of the debris from the first impact. One of the big rigs was a FedEx truck. Neither truck driver were eported to have been injured in the accident and there was no hazardous materials spill.

Traffic was diverted off the Interstate between FM 2599 and State Highway 176. Westbound lanes of I-20 were closed all day Wednesday and Thursday following.
