Author: XENIA, OH – Slippery roads may have contributed to a truck accident Monday afternoon, may 17, 2010, in Greene County, Ohio. The collision between a dump truck with an attached trailer and a utility truck occurred on Ohio Highway US 42 east of Bickett Road, in Xenia, OH near Wilberforce University. The truck accident area is east of the Dayton, OH metro region in the southwest section of the state, about 62 miles southwest of Columbus, OH and about 55 miles northeast of Cincinnati, OH.
The truck accident forced the utility truck off the highway and it ended up in a field on the right side of the roadway.The impact of the collision caused the dump truck and its trailer to rollover onto its side and it finally came to a rest blocking the traffic lanes on US 42.
Shortly after 12 noon on Monday an unidentified truck driver was driving a dump truck with an attached trailer carrying a construction bulldozer. The trailer truck was in the area of Xenia in Greene County, headed southwest on US 42. As the truck traveled in the area just east of Bickett Road a car traveling in front of the truck suddenly came to a stop on the highway.
The truck driver was unable to slow down, possibly because of slick road surfaces, and lost control of his rig. The trailer truck crossed over the center line on the highway into the path of a utility truck headed northeast on the highway. The two truck drivers were unable to avoid a collision, and the dump truck with the trailer hit the utility truck almost head-on.
The truck accident forced the utility truck off the highway and it ended up in a field on the right side of the roadway. The impact of the collision caused the dump truck and its trailer to rollover onto its side and it finally came to a rest blocking the traffic lanes on US 42.
Local rescue teams and emergency personnel responded to the truck accident scene. One person suffered minor injuries in the crash and was treated at the scene and then transported to a nearby hospital. Officials did not identify the victim.
Ohio State Highway Patrol also responded to the truck accident and shut down the area surrounding the collision on US 42 between Brush Row Road and Bickett Road. The road would remain closed for more than two hours.

Officers conducted an accident reconstruction while highway crews worked to remove the disabled vehicles and debris from the roadway. One of the trucks also spilled fuel during the collision. A Haz-mat team was called in but a local emergency crew was able to clean up the fuel spill. After investigating the truck accident OSH determined that the driver of the dump truck was responsible for the collision as he may have been following too close to the car in front of him and may also have been driving too fast for the wet road conditions. He was cited for “Assured Clear Distance”.
At this time it appears that officials have wrapped up the truck accident investigation and no other charges are expected.
