TAMPA, FL – One woman was seriously injured in a four-vehicle crash involving a semi truck on the I-275 in Tampa, FL on Wednesday, November 23, 2011.

Tampa is located in Hillsborough County, Florida in the eastern part of the state about 280 miles northwest of Miami, 85 miles southeast of Orlando and about 23 miles northeast of Saint Petersburg.

The chain-reaction accident happened around 7:37 p.m. on the southbound I-275 just north of the interchange with I-4. A 2011 Nissan Altima, driven by Steven Gordon, 37 years old, from Gainesville, stopped for an accident ahead and was struck from behind by a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by Carolyn A Butler, 46 years old, from Clearwater.

The PT Cruiser was then hit from behind by a 2003 Ford Taurus, driven by Michelle O’Shaughnessy, 27 years old, from Tampa. But O’Shaughnessy took the brunt of the accident when her car was slammed into by a tractor trailer driven by Richard Arnold Miller, 64 years old, from Tifton, GA.

O’Shaughnessy’s Taurus spun around several times. She was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. She was reported to be in serious condition although the Florida Highway Patrol said her injuries were said to be non life-threatening.

Fortunately, none of the other drivers were injured in the incident.

All southbound lanes of traffic except for one were closed while the accident scene was worked by investigators.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
