THONOTOSASSA, FL. – The driver of a Ford Expedition was killed on Thursday morning, April 6, after his SUV collided with a dump truck on US 301 in Thonotosassa, Florida. The city of Thonotosassa is located approximately 5.4 miles north of Hillsborough and 14.5 miles northeast of Tampa.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Ford Expedition was traveling southbound on US 301 north of Franklin Road, when for unknown reasons, it veered into the northbound lane.

WTSP.com reports:

The Expedition drove into the path of the oncoming dump truck, and the two vehicles collided head-on. The Expedition then became engulfed in flames, and the driver died at the scene.

The driver of the dump truck sustained minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

The identity of the killed driver has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
