DALLAS. TX — A tanker truck carrying more than 8,000 gallons of fuel exploded after it was hit by a Union Pacific freight train early Thursday morning , August 23, in Wills Point Texas. The city of Wills Point is located about 47 miles east of Dallas Texas.
According to the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office, the truck accident occurred at state Highway 80 at about 1:15 a.m., when the fuel tanker truck was trying to cross the railroad tracks, got stuck and was hit by an oncoming train.
The tanker truck driver, two men on the train, a conductor and an engineer were reported to have escaped without injuries.
Fire departments from across Van Zandt County and Kaufman County were on the scene.
The media reported that some fuel leaked toward surrounding homes, but crews said those home were not in danger of catching on fire. The smoke, however, was a concern and crews were working to evacuate about 50 homes in the area.
The incident remains under investigation at tis time.
