SAN MARCOS, TX — A semi truck accident took place on Thursday Sept 13, 2012, shutting down two lanes of the northbound I-35 near exit 205 in San Marcos, Texas. The city of San Marcos is located about 31 miles south of Austin.
According to San Marcos officials, the 18 wheeler lost control and hit a utility pole, knocking the pole and lines down across the northbound and southbound lanes where the semi truck then came to rest against a guardrail.
Because the semi truck’s tanks were full of diesel fuel at the time of the crash, precautions were taken by the San Marcos Fire Department. The Fire Department responded at about 5 p.m and shoveled sand over portions of the highway to prevent the fuel from spreading. Fire officials told the media that there was no immediate fire danger.
The truck driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
