HILLISTER, Texas — A semi truck driver carrying gasoline was killed Friday morning, Nov. 30, when the tanker truck he was driving overturned and exploded.

The accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on Highway 69 in Hillister which caused the gasoline to ignite after the truck flipped onto its side near FM-1013. Hillister is located about 115 northeast of Houston.

The victim was identified as 58-year old Bertis Wood of Jasper.

According to Sheriff David Hennigan, firefighters were still working to put out the flames over two hours past the time of the accident.

KFDM News reported that a nearby home also caught fire, but firefighters were able to get a couple out of the burning home safely.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
