LUFKIN, TX – A logging truck collided with an ABF Freight Systems tractor trailer in a fiery crash on U.S. Highway 59 on June 26, 2013 just north of Lufkin, TX. The city of Lufkin is located in Angelina County in East Texas about 20.5 miles southwest of Nacogdoches.
The accident happened just after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, when the northbound logging truck made a turn into the path of a southbound ABF truck at the intersection of Winston 8 Ranch Road (Old Hwy 59).
The ABF truck struck the log truck’s rear axle and a fire and conflagration ensued. Firefighters and rescue personnel were called in from Lufkin to deal with the situation.
The log truck driver was identified as Patrick Moore and the ABF driver was identified as Stanley Carpenter from Hot Springs, AR. Fortunately, neither truck driver suffered any life-threatening injuries.

“Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Clint Henderson said a log truck that was heading northbound on U.S. 59 turned into the path of an ABF cargo truck that was headed southbound on the highway.”
Traffic on U.S. 59 was shut down for the better part of two hours after the accident until it could be re-opened around twenty minutes to five.
The log truck driver was cited by Police for making an unsafe turn.
