The accident occurred just after midnight on July 8 on a stretch of U.S. Highway 67 between Big Lake and Barnhart. Everett was driving westbound on U.S. 67 in a 2010 Silverado pickup truck when she ran into a 2007 Peterbilt  tractor trailer up ahead of her that was in the middle of making a U-turn, blocking both lanes of traffic.

A motorist stopped to help, along with the driver of the semi, Lidio Moya Jr., from Laredo, TX. They tried to help Everett when they saw another semi truck approaching, so they got out of the way.

The second 18 wheeler, driven by Robert Lamar Pope from McCamey, TX, crashed into the pickup and the other semi trailer, killing Everett. Pope did not see the accident up ahead because it was dark. Everett was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to a funeral home in San Angelo, about 55 miles away to the northeast.

There were no other injuries reported in the accident.
