ESTELLINE, TX – A semi truck crashed on U.S. Highway 287 north of Estelline, TX on September 8, causing a hazardous chemical spill. Estelline is located in Hall County in the northern part of the state near the Oklahoma border about 101 miles southeast of Amarillo.

At approximately 7:00 a.m. on September 8, 2013 the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a hazardous spill after receiving reports that a semi truck crashed and turned over on U.S. Highway 287 north of Estelline, TX.

The tractor trailer was traveling west on U.S. 287 when it went off the road and turned over at County Road K. The 18-wheeler was hauling ditertbutyl dicarbonate, which spilled onto the highway median.

A hazmat crew was called in to clean up the spill, which amounted to about 1,650 gallons. During the cleanup operation, about 29 miles of both U.S. 287 plus the railroad tracks were closed from Childress, TX to Memphis, TX.

No injuries were reported.
