HEARNE, TX – Poor driving conditions due to heavy rains is being blamed for a fatal accident involving an 18-wheeler and a pickup on Texas 6 south of Hearne on Thursday afternoon, March 29, that left three people dead and two others injured. Hearne is located in Robertson County, Texas in the eastern central part of the state about 119 miles northwest of Houston and 95 miles northeast of Austin.
Syracuse, NY – A tractor trailer got stuck Thursday morning under the West Genesee Street railroad bridge at Erie Boulevard West in Syracuse, NY.
By a vote of 5 to 4 committee vote, the Idaho Senate rejected Senator Jim Hammond’s proposal to raise the trucking speed limit to 75 mph. Hammond proposed the theory that it would actually be safer by having all vehicles, including big-rigs, semi tractors, 18 wheelers, etc., drive the same speed limit. This, he said, would “eliminate a lot of lane changes.”
Trucking safety groups and Public Citizen are now challenging the new HOS rule issued by FMCSA. This news comes after the trucking industry group American Trucking Associations (ATA) also filed a suit.
Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, Public Citizen, the Truck Safety Coalition, and two truck drivers are also challenging the HOS rule issued by FMCSA. They recently filed a lawsuit challenging the new rule for truck driver hours of service citing the rule needed improvements regarding tired truckers and should be subjected to judicial review.
WASHINGTON, DC – The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Tuesday, Dec 12, called for a nationwide ban on the use of cell phones and text messaging devices while driving except for emergencies.
The Federal Government plans to increase truck driver’s pay in an effort to reduce the death toll due to speeding, driver fatigue, overloaded trucks or taking drugs to stay awake.

ATLANTA, GA – Last Tuesday Bolton Rd. in Atlanta GA, was shut down after a truck driver who was driving a Community Waste Services of Georgia garbage truck hit a railroad overpass in Northwest Atlanta shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Hours later a 20-foot stretch of concrete and metal came crashing down from the railroad overpass falling onto the road below it. PENBROKE PINES, FL – Two people were killed in a fatal head on collision on the I-75 in Pembroke Pines, Florida on Thursday morning.

FALLON, NV.- Two Texas school teachers traveling on vacation were tragically killed on Monday, June 13, in a two vehicle collision 18 miles west of Fallon, Nevada. The city of Fallon is located about 70 miles east of Reno. Both of the victims were high school teachers from San Diego, TX which is located 55 miles northwest of Corpus Christi.
The two victims were Renee J. Upchurch, 53, who was pronounced dead at the scene and her friend, Esther Garza, 59, who died at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno after being taken from the scene by helicopter. ... Read More
