The collision between the van and tractor trailer happened on Interstate 95 in Stamford, Fairfield County, CT. The accident area is in the far southwest corner of the state near the New York border, 21 miles southwest of Bridgeport, CT and 39 miles northeast of New York City.

After being hit by the tractor truck, the Toyota went onto the right side of the interstate and smashed into the guardrail.
