The big rig’s fuel tank must have ruptured in the crash because the truck and its trailer were set ablaze from diesel fuel that was spilled in the accident. The truck was hauling crates made from metal and plastic.

The truck driver was traveling with his wife and two dogs. All managed to escape unhurt. The trucker felt that some kind of mechanical problem may have caused the 18 wheeler to go out of control.

The accident caused a traffic snarl for the better part of a day while work crews cleaned up the debris and make repairs to the road. Traffic was backed up for about 3 miles and had to be diverted at FM 2837 and Rosenthal Rd.

About 800 feet of roadway was totally demolished and had to be replaced before the southbound lanes of the Interstate could be re-opened around 2:00 p.m.
